VUMA is a 6-month long Ex Candidates Internship programme that seeks to take youth through a balanced and holistic process of equipping them with knowledge and information; identification and development of talents and outdoor and team leadership skills, discovery of vision, purpose and life goals, and finally development of a missions heart and service to the community. VUMA stands for Vibrant in PURPOSE, Unveiled in POTENTIAL, Mature in PERSON and Anchored in PRINCIPLES.

During this month we had exciting themes at Xp;
On the First Sunday we had SCHOOL SUNDAY where we all dressed up in our school uniforms,had a roll call, raised the flag while KUHANI,the worship team sang the National Anthem. We then had a school parade and catwalk where all schools present showcased their uniforms and what stood out from their schools!
On the second Sunday, we had SPORTS SUNDAY where we celebrated all guys at the XP who do sports were as guys came with their sports gear and LAVIN ASEGO, from the Kenya Sevens’ Team was in the house to just show that you can go pro while still going strong with Jesus

The series’ Qpid is a lie’ continues in September with Pst.Gowi,Ephy Hunja and Jennifer Gowi leading the series as we go on bursting some of the relationship myths that have messed up our view on love!

The weeds in our lives that stifle our growth and potential as the great people we would have become. 

Think of WEEDS as the stuff that kills us off as youth…call it drugs, alcohol, porn or masturbation, it messes us big time from what our potential would have been…kinda like how weeds mess up a great harvest…

As youth we are like plants which can grow to produce such a great harvest…but the WEEDS of DRUGS,ALCOHOL, PORN and MASTURBATION…among others, kill us off too soon

So as we continue with this month’s series here’s a recap on the stuff we have been talking about for the last  two weeks…

After talking about the CYCLE of ADDICTION, Alex was back again last week to talk about how to HANDLE ADDICTION.

and practical ways of kicking the habit and of having principles

 that will help us overcome these WEEDS

Our first stop was a place called Natukopei Primary School which was 8km from camp but it was good to preach to children and welcome them to Christianity. They shared their many problems with us.

Next we went to Lokitaung High School. We were there for two days, we shared the Gospel with the students through plays and drama and explained the challenges of early marriage and HIV/AIDS. This is just to mention a few of the schools we went to.

We also did door to door evangelism and many people accepted Christ through this visits. During these visits, we sometimes felt we had to give something to the manyatta because most children only have one meal per day.

We visited market places and people were willing to listen to us talk about Jesus, we had a few translators who at the end of the trip were very tired. But it was a very good exercise.

Problems/Challenges

The hot climate made it difficult to travel for long distances hence we did not reach as many people as we would have wished to. The language barrier was a major challenge we had a few translators so it was difficult to reach many people because of our numbers. We also did not have enough Kiswahili Bibles, it was hard to translate some words from English into Swahili then into the Turkana language. There is also a lot of Islamic influence on some people in the area. Cold drinking water was a rare commodity because of the heat.

Our Success

We managed to reach out to many people for that short time we were there and identify the needs of the people of Lokitaung. We made them feel they are important and accepted in society and in God there is no condemnation, all people are equal before God.

Suggestions

• Groups going on Missions Lokituang should have at least three weeks or more so as to have adequate time for bonding and to reach out to a good number of people. The Karebur and Kokuro areas, which are 50km from Lokitaung are unreached which the next group (mission) should reach.
• If possible to carry some basic (material) things for these people – clothes, Bibles, foodstuff and medicine due to the many problems they face. Faith without action is dead.
• Carry Kiswahili Bibles for easy evangelism because of the language barrier.
• We have children who have finished primary school and the best thing about it is that they have passed but they are hopeless because their parents cannot pay for their school fees. Fees per year, is as low as Kshs. 15,000. These children need scholarships and sponsor to continue with their education.

I take this time to thank the Nairobi Chapel for giving me this opportunity. It has opened my eyes and my relationship with God has definitely improved and I now understand that I was created for service to other people in my life. I am ready to do missions anywhere as this mission to Lokitaung has prepared me well. Thanks again and may God continue to Bless you.

Survivor Sunday was the test of all time.  All the tribes in Survivor XP had to bring their best game on the table as they locked horns to know who would be

THE LAST TRIBE STANDING!

ZUKA with their many men,were all over the rest of the teams  with their sheer strength while CROSSROADERS were the little terrors as they white washed all competition in their MKOKOTENI races!a true measure of SPEED

The FOOD was a huge relief for many as they would need the energy for the afternoon  and the slippery  WATERY TUG OF WAR  that was going  to be the ultimate test of strategy.

The final WATER FIGHT washed down the day’s titans as the drama that had ensued the whole day had made ROWALLAN camp too hot to handle.

All in all it was a great day with so much fun with over 300 guys from XP and their friends coming and having such a blast

These are just some of the questions that you really never want anyone to ask you…coz you know they’ll be hard to answer. They almost sound like the kind of questions that a grown up(your Mom) would ask you, and just spoil the rest of your day because you kinda had an idea or a plan of how and when to do those things but you just hadn’t started working on them yet! The idea of postponing stuff that we are meant to do immediately, always affects each one of us..We keep on getting caught up on doing other things aside from what we are expected to be doing and then constantly keep finding ourselves doing things ‘last minute’ Be it homework, be it that resolution, be it even making your bed… sometimes decided to put off something till later,gets us stuck in the future. And so this 3rd week in the ALPHA series, We are going to  figure out, how to not let ourselves get STUCK IN THE FUTURE!
